Earlier this year, Alexander Lukashenko has also stated that "A lawyer has to perform his functions without any fears, but at the same time, we must understand that he is a government man."
We remind that such statements contradict the generally accepted standards of the work of the bar and the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers, which, among other things, prohibit the interference of the Ministry of Justice and the government in the activities of the bar.
Sergei Khomenko was appointed a Minister of Justice in October 2021. Prior to that, he was the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, commanding the internal troops.
